13-16 Mar: Youth events at Wildlife Asia Film Festival
A Celebration of Wildlife and the Environment, and our Relationship with the Natural World. Highlights include the Lion Awards Seminars and debates covering the latest issues in environment, conservation and wildlife filmmaking. Workshops and training sessions on the latest technology and techniques. Screenings of short-listed films. Pitching to the majors. Trade show and product demonstration.

Free youth events for those aged 13-18. Meet famous wildlife filmmakers and attend workshops and discussions led by top professionals. Spaces are limited. Including Filmmaking in the Field, Introduction to Editing, Introduction to The Media, Meet the Filmmakers, Me and the Environment, Careers in the Wild, Talent of Tomorrow, Inspiring the Future and Youths Speak Out – Closing Youth Event.

14 Mar (Wed): Singapore Botanic Gardens - Our Heritage

Come re-discover the Singapore Botanic Gardens! Tour our newly re-opened and re-developed Gardens in this 1- hour walk through the Tanglin/Heritage Core. Highlights of this tour include the new Main Gate, the Heritage Trees, the Saraca Stream Walk and the new Public Reference Centre. Participants will be given the opportunity to access reference materials and advice on plant care in this new facility of the Gardens! Suitable for family groups (including children of Primary 1 to Lower Secondary Levels)

14 Mar (Wed): Young Animal Lovers!
Talk on Responsible Pet Ownership by the SPCA

Puppies, kittens and little bunnies make adorable pets. However it requires a lot of time and effort to take care of them. In this talk, learn more about the responsibility behind having a pet how you can make sure that your furry friend will be a happy pet. A cuddly mystery pet will be making an appearance. For 7-12 years old.

16 Mar (Fri): Singapore Botanic Gardens - Our Heritage

with the Green Volunteers Network

Come for an introduction to nature with all your senses! The Green Volunteers Network will conduct this one-and-a-half hour tour of a special trail at Pulau Ubin.

Let volunteers of the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research introduce you to one of the largest seagrass meadows in Singapore, with living reefs and lush mangroves. Teeming with marine life. All on the island where our rubbish is dumped! How is this possible? Find out by joining the walk!

17 Mar (Sat): Birdwatching at Marina East
for NSS members only

Dr Ho Hua Chew will bring you through scrub and woodland habitats at Marina East, for sights of resident birds like the Lesser Coucal, Yellow-bellied Prinia, Long-tailed Shrike and more, including migrant visitors like cuckoos, flycatchers and raptors that will soon be leaving Singapore for summers in the north. Such forays into the wilderness at Marina East are endangered experiences as the area is slated for future development.

Time: 7.30am, meet at the pay car park at the Fort Road/East Coast Parkway junction. SBS 30 or 158 will take you there.

17 Mar (Sat): Horseshoe Crab Watch with Hsu Chia Chi and Conservation volunteers
for NSS members only

Spend an afternoon at the Mandai mangroves and help rescue and study horseshoe crabs trapped in discarded nets. Recommended footwear: shoes/boots.

Time: 2.30pm meet at nameless track extending from Kranji Road at junction with Kranji Loop. Take bus 925 from Kranji MRT, alight at Chinese temple along Kranji Loop, cross the road and head for a track 50m to the east. If transport is required, meet at Kranji MRT station taxi stand at 2.15pm

Main Bridge17 Mar (Sat): Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve free guided walk

You'll see the fabulous plants and animals of the mangroves and freshwater wetlands. Besides the abundant bird life, there is also other fascinating wildlife in the Reserve. more

3.30am: Marine Fish Tour, a 30-minute tour introducing the fascinating fishes of Buloh.

Time: 9.30 am and 3.30pm for walk in guests, register at the Visitor Centre. Those coming with large groups are advised to pre-register.
Tour duration: one to one and a half hours. Easy trails, some suitable for young children.
Entry charges: $1 per adult, 50cents per child/student/senior citizen.

Explore the beauty and diversity of orchids at the Singapore Botanic Gardens with volunteer guides in this one-hour tour. Please register 15 minutes before the tour. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis at the Visitor Centre. more

18 Mar (Sun): Butterfly Walk at MacRitchie Trail with Simon Chan
for NSS members only

In January, we introduced members to a number of beautiful butterfly species that frequent the butterfly trail at Alexandra Hospital. This time we will take our butterfly watching skills into the forest. Forest butterflies are more brilliantly coloured than those in urban areas. Species expected here include the regal Royal Assyrian, the very rare Dark Blue Jungle Glory, the big, strong and fast flying Great Helen and many more deep forest dwellers. Please bring drinking water and mosquito repellent for this two hour walk.

Time: 10am meet at MacRitchie Reservoir Park’s main car park entrance.
