Ttree
(20-30m). Leaves eye-shaped (8-15cm long), glossy, stiff, with tiny
evenly distributed black spots on the underside. Stipule is usually
(but not always) red. Flowers in pairs on very short stalks so they
appear to be stuck directly onto the branch. Flower bract brown, hard
and thick. Conspicuous arching stilt roots often also with lots of
aerial roots so the tree appears to have a skirt of roots. Commonly
seen in our mangroves. |

tiny evenly distributed spots on the underside. Flowers on long stalks,
bract white, hard and thick. Fruit large brown. Hypocotyl very long
(50-70cm) and pimply. Aerial roots from the lower branches, as well
as stilt roots from the trunk. Commonly seen in our mangroves. |

bract white, hard and thick. Fruit large brown. Hypocotyl long (less
than 30cm) and pimply. Aerial roots from the lower branches. Stilt
roots up to 3m long, often forming extensive loops to some distance
from the trunk. Sometimes seen in our mangroves. It is Vulnerable. |
Bush
to small tree (to 2m). Leaves oval. Flowers clustered, tiny white
frilly petals. Fruit brown with textured surface. Hypocotyl long sharply
angular with a red collar when ready to drop off. Sometimes seen in
our mangroves. It is Endangered. |
