Nature activities and events happening this week 25-31 Dec 06 16-25 Dec: Singapore Garden Festival Events include: Landscape Gardens, Fantasy Gardens, Floral Windows to the World, Garden Fiesta, Singapore Orchid Show Visit the Nature Society (Singapore) at the Singapore Garden Festival 2006! The theme of their exhibit is “Wildlife Gardens”. Come and help us spread the word about the pleasure of caring for plants that provide a haven for birds, butterflies, dragonflies, damselflies and other precious members of our native fauna. Venue: Suntec City Convention Centre 16-31 Dec: Photography Exhibition by Avian Watch Asia (AVA) at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve Visitor Centre 40 bird pictures will be on display at the Visitors Centre. This collection of photographs is from a group of bird photographers from AvianWatchAsia.org who attempts to showcase the myriad variety of bird species that can be found in the SBWR. More details on the SBWR website Until 31 Dec 06: Dolphins and other sea mammals of Singapore -- States of Being: Mammals found in our Sea Exhibition Inspired by the “Undersea World” stamp issue released in March 2006, this exhibition presents information on four sea mammals, and suggests simple things humans can do to protect the mammals and their natural environment. Through the use of exhibition guides, parents can explain information, impart values to the children, and facilitate the acquisition of analysis and reasoning skills. The exhibition is targetted for five to eight year-olds. Dec (Sat): Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve free guided walkYou'll see the fabulous plants and animals of the mangroves and freshwater wetlands. Besides the abundant bird life, there is also other fascinating wildlife in the Reserve. more 3pm: Marine Fish Tour, a 30-minute tour introducing the fascinating fishes of Buloh. Time: 9am, 10am, 3pm, 4pm, for walk in guests, register at the Visitor Centre. Those coming with large groups are advised to pre-register. Tour duration: one to one and a half hours. 30 Dec (Sat): Free Evolution Garden Tour, Singapore Botanic GardensJourney through time with our volunteer guides in this one-hour tour. Bizarre plants, bubbling pools of hot lava and lots of other things you wouldn't expect to see in a botanic garden! Time: 9am, register at Visitor Centre Time. Register 15 minutes before the tour. Dec (Sun): Free "Painting with Pui San" at Sungei Buloh
Wetland Reserve Pui San welcomes artists of all ages or anyone who wants to learn. His objective is to encourage creativity while enjoying nature at the same time. Bring along your favourite drawing or painting supplies. More about Pui San. Time: Meet 8.30am at the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve ticketing counter (Visitor Centre). Session usually lasts until about 11am. Usual entry charges apply: $1 per adult, 50cents per child/student/senior citizen.
