28 Oct (Sat): Bird Photography talk by David Tan

David Tan is professional photographer based in Singapore and shoot a broad range of subjects. His speciality is nature photography and particularly bird photography. He works regularly on assignments with a number of the key organisations in Singapore that are involved with the protection and enhancement of nature and the environment on the island. These include the National Parks Board, the Zoological Gardens, Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. He was appointed as the principal photographer for the book, “Birds at the Istana”, commissioned by the current President of the Republic of Singapore, Mr. SR Nathan. Until 31 Dec 06: States of Being: Mammals found in our Sea

Inspired by the “Undersea World” stamp issue released in March 2006, this exhibition presents information on four sea mammals, and suggests simple things humans can do to protect the mammals and their natural environment. Through the use of exhibition guides, parents can explain information, impart values to the children, and facilitate the acquisition of analysis and reasoning skills. The exhibition is targetted for five to eight year-olds.

Until 28 Oct: "Made in Germany: Architecture Ecology" Exhibition

Going beyond pure aesthetics, the exhibition brings together nine projects in an exhibition on sustainable architecture, demonstrating through built works and upcoming examples how ecological principles can go hand in hand with our modern lifestyles and changing environment. Produced by the Goethe-Institut and hosted at The URA Centre, the exhibition showcases the architectural innovations and design solutions from an emerging generation of German architects - whether it is the world's first subterranean "zero-energy" train station, a solar housing estate that produces more energy than its residents use, or a gymnasium sensitively inserted into a nature reserve. Free admission.
