18 Jul (Mon): Free screening of "Moving Gods" a drama about the Pulau Ubin German Girl Shrine

XTREME Production presents to you - a feature TV Drama of a mysterious temple in Pulau Ubin that worships a German girl. Adapted from a play by Lim Jen Erh for The Theatre Practice, the story revolves around a filmmaker's (Jen) search for the German Girl mystery. Who is this German Girl, and why do people pray to her? 20 Jul (Wed): Free talk on "Underwater coral nurseries and concepts for reef restorations"

Lucia Bongiorni (Department of Marine Science Polytechnic University of Marche Ancona, Italy) will introduce concepts and rationales for reef restoration including techniques such as coral and fragments transplantation, enhancement of recruitment, corals spats, and electrochemical calcification. A particular emphasis will be put in a two-step restoration strategy involving gardening of small coral fragments (nubbins) in low profile nurseries and their successive transfer to the degraded reef. 23 Jul (Sat): "LoveYour Pet" Event

Blue Water Volunteers as well as other green groups will be at the event to share about Singapore wildlife. Organised by the NorthWest CDC. more

Photo Number 223 Jul (Sat): Sensory Trail, Pulau Ubin free guided walk

Experience Ubin’s wonderful nature through your different senses along our Sensory Trail. The easy walk is an excellent introduction to the rustic and natural character of the island. You will be able to touch, see or smell fruit trees, spices and herbs for cooking, plants used in traditional medicine and native plants of the mangrove forest. more

Time: Tours start at 9.30am and 10am, meet 10 minutes before the tour stars at the Ubin Information Kiosk (near Ubin Jetty).
Tour duration: one and a half hours.
To join the guided tour, you will need to pre-book with NParks. Pulau Ubin Hotline (Tel: 6542-4108) or visit the Ubin Information Kiosk between 8.30am-5pm to book a visit. A booking number would be allocated upon confirmation of places.

23 Jul (Sat): Free Evolution Garden Tour, Singapore Botanic Gardens

Journey through time with our volunteer guides in this one-hour tour. Bizarre plants, bubbling pools of hot lava and lots of other things you wouldn't expect to see in a botanic garden!

Time: 9am, register at Visitor Centre Time. Register 15 minutes before the tour. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis.

Main Bridge23 Jul (Sat): Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve free guided walk

You'll see the fabulous plants and animals of the mangroves and freshwater wetlands. Besides the abundant bird life, there is also other fascinating wildlife in the Reserve. more

9am: Free Marine Fish Guided Walk at Sungei Buloh introducing you to the fabulous fishes of the Reserve.

Time: 9am, 10am, 3pm, 4pm, for walk in guests, register at the Visitor Centre. Those coming with large groups are advised to pre-register.
Tour duration: one to one and a half hours. Easy trails, some suitable for young children.
Entry charges: $1 per adult, 50cents per child/student/senior citizen.

24 Jul (Sun): Free guided walk of the Pasir Panjang Heritage Trail

As part of Heritage Fest 2005, join volunteers of the the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research, NUS in collaboration with Reflections at Bukit Chandu, NHB on the Heritage trail to learn about the ecosystem of Kent Ridge Park and the Battle of Pasir Panjang. 24 Jul (Sun): Kids' Fun with Bats

The Nature Society (Singapore) Education Group introduces bats. Where do bats sleep during the day? How many types of bats are there in Singapore? If you are between the ages of 5 and 11 and are curious to learn more, join this session.

Time: 3pm, meet at the Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre.
Charges: $5 for NSS members, $10 for non-members.

24 Jul (Sun): Birdwatching at Khatib Bongsu
open to NSS members only

Ho Hua Chew will take a more venturesome walk to sample a larger area by going on a wider circuit trail. Among the birds likely to be spotted are woodpeckers, bulbuls, kingfishers, tailorbirds and sunbirds. It is a long walk that will end at around 1pm and is therefore not suitable for young children.

Time: 7.30am, meet at the lobby of HDB Block 406 Yishun Ave 6.

24 Jul (Sun): Free "Painting with Pui San" at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

Pui San welcomes artists of all ages or anyone who wants to learn. His objective is to encourage creativity while enjoying nature at the same time. Bring along your favourite drawing or painting supplies. More about Pui San.

Time: Meet 8.30am at the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve ticketing counter (Visitor Centre). Session usually lasts until about 11am.
Usual entry charges apply: $1 per adult, 50cents per child/student/senior citizen.
