11 May (Wed): Free Slidetalk “Introduced Species in our Environment” by Ashley Ng

With Vesak Day round the corner, this presentation is timely in discussing the impact of exotic, foreign wildlife species released into our environment. For instance, not many people know that the common House Crow is not a native species but had been introduced into Singapore years ago. This very intelligent bird has adapted so well to local urban conditions that it is now generally considered a pest. The talk will also cover various other introduced species and provides practical insights on the issue.

Time: 7pm
Venue: Merpati Hall, the 3rd floor auditorium of Geylang East Community Library

14 May (Sat): Forest Butterflies and their Interaction with Plants
open only to NSS members

In April, the Nature Society (Singapore)'s Butterfly Interest Group and the Plant Group introduced a number of beautiful butterfly species that frequent gardens. This time we will take our newly-found butterfly watching skills to the forest. In addition to focusing on the butterflies of our forests, we’ll also be on the lookout for their food plants. To what extent is butterfly distribution limited by their host plants? Come find out with our butterfly and plant enthusiasts! We meet at 10.00am at the main entrance carpark of MacRitchie Reservoir Park. The Plant Group and the Butterfly Interest Group will appreciate any contributions made at the walk in support of Nature Society (Singapore)’s General Fund.

Time: 10am, meet at the main entrance carpark of MacRitchie Reservoir Park.
