12 Mar (Sat): Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research free guided tour

As part of the NUS Open House 2005, the RMBR's public gallery will be opened from 9am-5pm (usually closes at 1pm on Saturdays). Staff and alumni will be conducting free guided walks. Here's a great chance to learn more about our very own natural history from those who really know.

more details about this event on the Raffles Museum News website; and more about the RMBR public gallery. See also an mms visit I made last year to the gallery.

Time: free guided tours at 12noon, 2pm and 4pm. But you can come in on your own anytime from 9am-5pm
Location: see these links to get there (it's a bit of a challenge for the first timer, but worth the effort. Think of it as a treasure hunt :-)

jetty off the rocky shore12-13 Mar (Sat-Sun): Reveal of Labrador Park and Carnival

For the very first time, the Labrador Tunnels will be opened to the public. Explore this underground maze of tunnels and enjoy two days of family fun as the 16.8 hectare park comes alive with interesting activities and gastronomic delights.

Two tunnels were discovered at the park in 2001. To recreate the war-time atmosphere, the two tunnels were preserved in their original state as much as possible. Another new key feature at the park is a 6" cannon that was uncovered at Beach Road in 2001. The National Parks Board, together with Singapore Explorer Pte Ltd, will be launching the tunnels and cannon at Labrador Park on 11 Mar 05.

"There will be a free shuttle service from HarbourFront to Labrador Park for the duration of the Carnival." This has since been replaced with the following arrangement "SBS Transit will be commencing a public bus service to Labrador Park on Sats, Suns and public holidays starting from 12 Mar. This commencement period coincides with the fiesta and carnival activities at Labrador Park on 12 and 13 Mar and SBS is promoting their branding of the bus service on that day. Thus, the free shuttle bus (provided by Singapore Explorer) will not proceed." as indicated by an email from NParks.

More about Labrador Park (how to get there, info for visitors) and about the Carnival on the visitsingapore website.
