13 Mar (Sat): Trip to Bukit Batok Nature Park
Time: 3.30pm. Meet at the carpark of Bukit Batok Nature Park, corner of Bukit Batok East Ave 6 and Bukit Batok East Ave 2.
Open only to NSS members and associates

Shawn Lum and the Plant Group of the Nature Society (Singapore) continues their look at forest fragmentation with this visit to a patch of secondary forest. What happens when the forest suffers from the double whammy of habitat alteration and fragmentation? How can the recovery of a forest be affected when the fragment is isolated from potential sources of plants and animals? Find out more at this walk. More about Bukit Batok Nature Park.

13 Mar (Sat): Kids Fun with Mangroves
Time: 2.30-3.30pm
Place: Woodlands Regional Library, Amazon Room, ground floor

Why are mangrove roots the way they are? Participate in a craft activity and learn why we should love our mangroves and what we can do to save them. This kids' workshop is open to kids 5-11 years old and limited to 30 children. Participation fee $5/child. Pre-registration required. Organised by the Singapore Art Museum of the National Heritage Board and the National Library and conducted by the Nature Society (Singapore).

13 Mar (Sat): Open House at Raffles Museum
of Biodiversity Research Public Gallery

Time: all Saturday afternoon, guided tours begin from 2pm every hour.
Place: RMBR, Block S6, #03-01, Science Drive 2

In conjunction with NUS and Science Faculty Open House, the Public Gallery of the Raffles Museum will be open this Saturday, all afternoon (it is usually closed at this time). So use the opportunity to join a guided tour of the fabulous displays there. A new display called "Catfishes of Asia" is featured

13 Mar (Sat): PrawnWatch at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve
Time: 9.30am, please be at the Visitor Centre by 9am

View a demonstration of the traditional method of prawn harvesting. Learn how the tides play a part in this activity. The demonstration is free but usual entry charges to the Reserve apply: $1 per adult, 50cents per child/student/senior citizen. More about Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.

13 Mar (Sat): Free guided walk at
Botanic Gardens Rainforest Trail

Time: 9am, 10am, 11am, 4pm

You'll see giant rainforest trees and learn about them and the other plants and animals that they shelter on this one-hour tour. Register 15 minutes before the tour at the Visitor Centre. More details about the trail and about the walk on the SBG website.

Pasir Ris Park Mangrove/Spice Garden
Time: 10am.

Organised by the Green Volunteer Network.Meet 10am at Station Control Pasir Ris MRT station. More details about Pasir Ris Park and about the walk on the GVN website. To join the guided tour, you will need to pre-book.

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

14 Mar (Sun): Pedal Ubin Adventure
Time: 8.30am. Meet at the Pulau Ubin Basketball Court.

Have you every wondered how Ubin got its name? About stories of hornbills and durian trees? Journey on a bicycle to discover the nature and heritage of Ubin. Be treated to a introduction to Pulau Ubin by volunteer Pedal Ubin guides. Ride type: Introductory. Suitable for those who are clueless about Ubin. Biking skill need not be very high. Pre-registration required. More details.

14 Mar (Sun): Free guided walk at
MacRitchie Prunus Trail

Time: 9.30am and 10.30am. Meet at entrance of the trail, about 300m from the fishing ground, MacRitchie Reservoir Park.

You'll see breath-taking views of the reservoir and surrounding forests and learn more about the freshwater and land wildlife and plants there. More details. To join the guided tour, you will need to pre-book.
