Shuqun Primary School gets studio to promote environmental protection

SINGAPORE: Students at Shuqun Primary School now have a studio to produce programmes using the latest technology to teach students about environmental protection. The studio is aptly called "Channel E Studio" – E for environment.

"The main thing here is that we've chosen such a facility to promote environmental education, and this is actually tied in with our school's emphasis in outdoor education. We're just basically using a tool to promote the same message," said Gary Tsu, principal of Shuqun Primary School.

The school is working with Environment Discovery with Granado Espada (EDGE) to produce the software to create educational programmes. EDGE will also teach students to extract computer graphics and superimpose them onto the screens, so students can use the studio facilities to create interactive digital presentations, poetry and art.

"It is fun using the podcast studio and I'm glad to have a podcast studio in my school," said Primary 6 student Ashiqulbari.

"Instead of... teaching through the regular classroom method, which is a bit difficult for them to associate with, I think this would really help them in their self-learning and self-discovery of the topics," said Dr Amy Khor, mayor of South West District.

The studio, which has been up for only two months, is clearly a hit with the students. - CNA/ac
