Recycling bins are being 'robbed'
Letter from Li Caiying

I was disgusted to hear that there are people out there stealing things from recycling bins.

My mother was passing by Block 712 in West Coast recently on her way to work when she saw three karung guni men emptying what was inside the two recycling bins below the block. They took the newspapers and everything else that was inside.

I am sure this was not the first time they have done this, as the bins are located at quite a secluded area where there are few passers-by.

I agree that it is a good idea to have these recycling bins to encourage residents to recycle. However, these bins are useless when we have residents who make the effort to bring their recyclables there, only for others to simply take them away to sell for their own profit.

I hope the town council can do something about this matter, such as installing locks on the recycling bins.

If residents continue to see recyclables being stolen and sold, instead of being properly taken away by the proper authority, they may be deterred from recycling in future.
