Times Forum 25 Aug 06 Don't shoot the crows. Just give them contraceptives Letter from Jonathan Cheng Hern Sinn Scientists have developed a contraceptive for crows. I read with interest an article in http://www.aphis.usda.gov/ws/nwrc/research/reproductive_control/accomplishments.html This seems an ideal solution. It is more humane than shooting them. Crows being highly intelligent will disperse when they see the shooters. Moreover, after the first few shots are fired, they stay away thereby limiting the effectiveness of the culling campaign. Given the dangers posed by bird flu and crow droppings, why not investigate and implement the contraceptive solution. If it works, the crow problem can be solved eventually. links Related articles on Singapore: exotic species, pets and our wild places impact, issues, efforts, discussions |
