Birds and ants cause pest problem in Choa Chu Kang

Letter from Josephine Fong Hau Wan (Mdm)

THERE are these very huge trees outside Block 541 Choa Chu Kang Street 52 - actually two rows of tress, one along the roadside and the other on the grass patch just outside the block.

The trees have grown so huge, many birds seeking refuge there. They make a lot of noise, especially one type which starts calling at 5.30am every day. The birds make a mess when they fly around the windows and leave their droppings on the panes on the casement windows.

Recently, there has been another problem - big black ants have decided to make their nests at our air-con access. I have told Choa Chu Kang Town Council and was told there is a problem with ant-infected trees and treatment is being done. However, I noticed the problem is still not solved and the ants are coming back into our bedrooms.

I hope the authorities can help solve the problem completely, maybe by cutting down the row of trees on the grass patch outside the block since there is another row along the roadside.
