from Grant Pereira to GVN members 12 Jul 06 Eco-Centre Pulau Ubin Some very good news, I think (as the devil are in the details). The Singapore Land Authority has in principle agreed to lease to us a dilapidated old house at Pulau Ubin. We are going to use it as an eco-centre to conduct green activities and recruit green volunteers. We need help in the following areas: 1) Roofing material and installation 2) Cement the flooring, tiling and 3) Installation of solar panels We also need expertise on painting and how to remove old paint from wood. If you can help with any of the above or have friends that can please contact me. We also need ideas for new activities for the centre as it will be opened every weekend and we have to make it financially self-sustaining. We will also need volunteers every weekend and perhaps even on weekdays during the December school holidays. Depending on when the centre is handed over to us, we are trying to open the centre in November to coincide with Clean & Green Week. This is a milestone and a quantum leap for GVN as Ubin receives around 350,000 to 400,000 visitors a year. I look forward to your comments, suggestions and input.
