Over 1,000 rabbits ditched
Rennie Whang

CHARMED by their cute appearance, many Singaporeans keep rabbits as pets.

But the sad fact is that many are unprepared to take care of them, resulting in more than 1,000 rabbits being abandoned in Singapore each year.

Owners typically abandon their pets in parks and reservoirs.

This often leads to their death as they lack the instincts to fend for themselves.

To help educate the public, the House Rabbit Society of Singapore is organising a mini-carnival opposite the Orchard Cineleisure tomorrow. Called "Yours for Life", the event will showcase an educational corner, a children's colouring contest, an adoption corner and rabbit grooming activities.

Organisers also hope to debunk misconceptions such as the idea that rabbits eat carrots all the time.

Committee member Teeny The said that not many people know that rabbits have a delicate digestive system requiring a variety of food, including unlimited hay, high quality pellets and fresh green vegetables.
