Make green bags more user-friendly
Letter from Yee Meow Lin

I note that supermarkets and now convenience stores are going green: persuading people to use green shopping bags, limiting the use of plastic bags and so on.

The design of shopping bags that I have come across do not encourage usage.

The handle of the bag is just too long. It has to be slung over the shoulder, which is not practical when one is carrying a lot of things.

The material too is not suitable for cold stuff such as chilled drinks and frozen food. Water permeates the fabric.

The bag is also not "expandable": in the sense that plastic bags can be folded into small triangles which one can keep in the pocket to be used when required.

Supermarkets could reconsider the design of the bags to make them more user-friendly.
