NewsAsia 17 Nov 05 Animal rights group launches bird flu campaign on Orchard Road By Margaret Perry, Channel NewsAsia A giant yellow chicken strutted its stuff on Orchard Road on Thursday to encourage people to go vegetarian to avoid the spread of bird flu. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) says there would be no threat of a bird flu pandemic if chickens and ducks were not bred for the sole purpose of slaughtering and eating. According to this bilingual chicken, intensive factory farming of poultry and backyard farms are both responsible for the spread of bird flu. The animal rights group's campaign will head to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Manila and Seoul. - CNA/ir links Related articles on Global issues: Bird Flu |
