10 Jan (Sat): Under The Sea
Time: 2.30-3.30 pm
Place: Marine Parade Community Library, Activity Room

Discover the home of thousands of marine life species. An important eco-system, the ocean is filled with beautiful creatures of all shapes and sizes. Get up close and personal with specimens of marine creatures and explore the underwater world! For Children aged 7 to 12. Parents are welcome. Free admission.

10 Jan (Sat): 15th Asian Waterfowl Census
Time: 5pm onwards at various wetlands

Join the Nature Society Singapore at various sites to help in the simple but useful task of counting waterbirds in our wetlands. Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, Mandai Mudflats (our perennial all-time best site), Khatib Bongsu, Serangoon Estuary, Tanah Merah reclaimed land and others are all included in the count. Conducted throughout Asia annually, the counts serve as a basis for evaluation of sites and monitoring of populations. It also helps in monitoring the status and condition of wetlands and importantly, to encourage an interest in waterbirds and wetlands, and thereby their conservation. So join the thousands of waterbird enthusiasts throughout Asia this weekend by helping out at one of the many count sites.

Pasir Ris Park Mangrove/Spice Garden
Time: 10am.

Organised by the Green Volunteer Network.Meet 10am at Station Control Pasir Ris MRT station. More details about Pasir Ris Park and about the walk on the GVN website. To join the guided tour, you will need to pre-book.

Botanic Gardens Rainforest Trail

Time: 9am, 10am, 11am, 4pm

You'll see giant rainforest trees and learn about them and the other plants and animals that they shelter. Register 15 minutes earlier at the Visitor Centre. More details.

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

Time: 9am, 10am, 3pm, 4pm

You'll see the fabulous plants and animals of the mangroves and freshwater wetlands. Meet at the Visitor Centre. Usual entry charges apply: $1 per adult, 50cents per child /student/senior citizen. More details

11 Jan (Sun): Chinese New Year Plant Walk in Chinatown
Time: 10am, meet at the carpark next to Maxwell Road Food Centre
Open only to NSS members and associates

Join Jeanne Yeo, Shawn Lum and the Plant Group to find out more about the traditional uses and symbolism of plants, flowers and fruit on sale during the CNY period. What do mandarin oranges and multi-headed pineapples symbolise? What’s with the budding pussywillow offered next to hot-pink cockscomb celosia and the curly ‘Kwan Im Bamboo’? Our two main guides are well disposed to talk at length on such matters – Jeanne, an experienced professional tour guide, and Shawn, the botanist.

11 Jan (Sun): Kids’ Fun with Wetland Birds at
Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve
Time: 1pm, meet at the Visitor Centre.

Join the Nature Society (Singapore) Education Group as we try our best to spot as many wetland birds as we can – kingfishers, sandpipers, redshanks, greenshanks, plovers, egrets and herons! We’ll try to learn all about these lovely birds and how to spot them. If you’re between the ages of 5 and 11, and are interested to learn more about wetland birds, then join us for an afternoon of fun! Wear tee and long pants, a comfy pair of sneakers and bring your water bottle. A nominal fee of $5 (members) or $10 (non-members) per child will be collected on the spot.

MacRitchie Prunus Trail

Time: 9.30am and 10.30am. Meet at entrance of the trail, about 300m from the fishing ground, MacRitchie Reservoir Park.

You'll see breath-taking views of the reservoir and surrounding forests and learn more about the freshwater and land wildlife and plants there. To join the guided tour, you will need to pre-book. More details.
