17 Aug (Sun): Birdwatching at Bukit Timah Cycling Track
Time: 7.30 am at the Visitor Centre of the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, at the end of Hindhede Drive.
Open only to NSS members and associates.

Birdwatching at Bukit Timah Cycling Track with Andrew Chow of the Nature Society (Singapore). It’s time to jostle with the cyclists again as we venture into the cycling track that runs around the periphery of the nature reserve, although we will have to take care not to get into their way! The woods and abandoned plantations, as well as forest edge vegetation and open areas mean an assortment of birds. The endangered Straw-headed Bulbul, Banded Woodpecker, the beautiful Crimson Sunbird, the active Little Spiderhunter (always easier to see here), and the introduced Lineated Barbet are around. Along the way, listen out also for the Abbott’s Babbler, as we get nearer to the stream area. Take precautions against mosquitoes.

17 Aug (Sun): Butterfly Walk at Singapore Island Country Club
Time: 9.30 am. Meet at the hut at the junction of Venus Drive and Island Club Road.
Open only to NSS members and associates.

Butterfly Walk at Singapore Island Country Club with Ben Jin of the Nature Society (Singapore). Species seen here vary from season to season, depending on whether there are trees flowering in the forest. Residents include the graceful Common Tree Nymph, Commander, Knight, Malay Viscount, Archduke, Five Bar Swordtail and many more forest denizens. The Banded Yeoman, Royal Assyrian and Pandita sinope sinope are just some of the more seasonally common species. This walk will last about three hours.
