Terumbu Bemban

Habitats: Central area sandy, rubbly edges sparsely reefy, small patch of denser corals (20m) on eastern edge facing Beting Bemban Besar.

Conservation status: Does not appear on the URA Master Plan 2008 or the Parks and Waterbodies Plan.

Current conservation activities: Since 1986, Western Semakau is one of the survey sites of underwater coral reef surveys by ReefFriends of NParks and the Blue Water Volunteers.

The intertidal area of Terumbu Bemban is also regularly surveyed by wildsingapore.

About the name: Terumbu=A reef or rock at low tide but submerged at high water; Bemban=A type of plant whose stem is used for making baskets, possibly referring to fish traps.
