Where
seen? This small fiddler crab with a rather short and stout
enlarged pincer is rarely seen, usually in the back mangroves under
vegetation. It was previously known as Uca rosea.
Features: Body width 1-1.5cm.
Body squarish. The male fiddler crab's enlarged pincer length about
the same as the body width. The enlarged pincer's outer palm is pimply
with a groove on the lower edge to the immovable finger. The tips
of the fingers are short, and there isn't a wide gape between the
upper and lower finger. The palm is red, pink or purplish, the fingers
are white. Body colours and patterns vary: black with white or bluish
speckles, or blotches. Eyes black or dark red on long stalks pale
to bright red, walking legs short black.
Status and threats: The Rosy fiddler
crab is listed as 'Endangered' in the Red List of threatened animals
of Singapore.
