my experience on the NDP moblog Intro | have the objectives of the NDP blog-for-a-cause been met? | technical and support issues | what Real Bloggers think about the NDP blog from blog by Itchy Hands Singapore launches national moblog Posted on June 12, 2004 at 02:50 AM (Updated August 04, 2004) Whoa… Singaporeans are embracing the blogging culture in a big way. In the run up to their National Day this August, the National Day Parade (NDP) Organising Committee have incorporated blogs and moblogs into the NDP website. They’ve chosen 5 people to post entries and photos from their cameras and phones in the NDP MoBlog. The blogs are pretty tricked out, with photo galleries, SMS chat, and of course, the moblogs. However, the bloggers don’t really seem interested in blogging. Most of the blogs haven’t been posted to in a while. Also, the site doesn’t even have valid markup!!. Bad NDP website design team! But it’s a cool idea anyway, and it’s worth checking out. The NDP committee probably should have chosen real bloggers to blog, instead of the 5 they chose. The term is used to describe blogging through mobile wireless devices like a camera phone. You can get your own moblog for free at Buzznet or TextAmerica. from blog by Otterman Speaks Can't manufacture blogging Category : life in Singapore Fri 20 Aug 2004 The NDP blog seems to have helped highlight the fact that not all are up to blogging. Many of the people listed have been unable to post much, surprisingly even school students. Perhaps it was too public for their liking, they were too busy inthe flurry of August's activities, wondered who would read their blog, or were simply not the sort to write. Such a pity the organisers didn't think of recruiting some of the blogging stalwarts out there to lend a hand. And just get the reluctant but necessary celebrities offer comments. Few can match the industry of Ria who pens Wildlives. Her blog has tried to feature many personalities in the nature education and conservation scene. It has been interesting to read about people I know and exciting to discover the fresh new blood valiantly toiling away! Often, parents and teachers first initiated this interest. Unfortunately, teachers rarely get to see the fruits of their labour. Since I meet their students later on, I tell their teachers whenever I get the chance, usually at some talk. Its nice to see the smile spread across their faces in knowing realisation that they have helped make the world a better place. from blog by Nirmalya Singapore NDP Moblog July 18, 2004 at 06:47 PM Singapore is the first country to harness moblog technology on a nation wide scale. It is part of a Blog-For-A-Cause contest. The resons for this contest is to support this year's National Day Parade (NDP) theme, “A Progressive Society”. Quoting the organisers's site, "This theme seeks to highlight our strengths and values such as resilience, adaptability, enterprise, creativity & dare in the new age. Blog-for-a-Cause aims to proliferate the sense of community consciousness that underline these values. The public participates by posting comments about the respective causes in the blogger’s NDP blogsites. Through this, it is hoped that lively community discussions could be sparked off." At stake is a total prize of $12,500 from SingTel, which goes to the Top 3 bloggers whose Blog-For-A-Causes Topic on their blogsites provoke the most number of comments from the public. What is a Moblog? According to this site, "a moblog is an on-line space in which you can instantly publish photographs, text or video that has been captured through your cellular (mobile) telephone, hence the name "moblog" (mobile-log).". - I was curious so I checked this thing out. Here are my findings: - no such thing as "free speech" - the moblogs-for-whatver-cause seemed like a personal picture photobook of few so-called-babes - SingTel is finally gonna make some money from MMS! And now for some trivia.. I just found out today that Singapore actually has the largest per capita of bloggers in the world! [Source: Channel News Asia] from blog by www.mrbrown.com Blog the NDP July 20, 2004 Tym shares some thoughts on The Great NDP Moblog. I'd love to moblog for the nation, especially at such a major propaganda event, but my SMS fingers are not what they used to be. Lao liao, what to do. Besides, I doubt the organisers want to see my kind of patriotic comments. Excerpt: Now the blogs I'd like to see, like any good blogs, would offer idiosyncratic, yet entertaining, no-holds-barred views of the ups and downs, ins and outs, naughty and nice aspects of the show. Tell me which contingent had the first guy fainting while they were waiting for the President. Speculate how many fights will break out between impatient parade-goers. Provide a running commentary on what the parade commander's really thinking while he waits to give the next cue. |
