Times Forum 4 Jan 07 Keep cyclists off the pedestrian walkway at East Coast Park Letter from Lim Kim Swee MY FAMILY dines and enjoys the walk at East Coast Parkway every weekend and on public holidays. The lagoon area has been renovated to encourage recreation and sea sports. There is very heavy human traffic at the lagoon and at the hawker centre on weekends and public holidays. Cyclists also enjoy the ambience, the cool breeze and interaction with family and friends. There are separate paths for walking and cycling and they are clearly marked. However, cyclists choose to ignore the markings and cycle along the pedestrian path without any regard for anybody, be it animals or children. This is hazardous as one of them ran into my dog recently. The cyclist was unable to stop in time. Fortunately, my dog was not badly hurt but suffered from shock and a slight bruise on his foot. Can the relevant authorities post wardens to patrol the area and to ensure the proper use of the pathways? Perhaps a fine will also help to ensure compliance. links Related articles on recreation in our wild places |
