Times Forum Online 12 Sep 06 Singapore the Garden City where nature thrives Letter from Stella Kon (Ms) I agree with Straits Times writer Ong Soh Chin that Singapore should be branded as a Garden City. Singapore is like the world's great gardens because: It has a dazzling mix of many different types - enormous variety within a compact space. As the year goes by, each season brings a different colourful show Both local and foreign plants can be seen flourishing side by side Every sector is carefully planned and thought out, nothing is haphazard. There is constant maintenance and attention to every detail Meticulous care goes to providing a reliable supply of necessities like water and power New plantings are regularly brought in, nurtured and encouraged Nature areas are set aside where wild life can grow spontaneously - within the overall order Though only 41 years old, its community continues to mature and develop deep roots. links Related articles on Singapore: recreation |
