Jawa Guidebook Launch, 11-12 July The Chek Jawa guidebook was officially launched during the "Biodiversity of Singapore Symposium" on 11-12 July 03 (Fri-Sat), Lecture Theatre 25, Faculty of Science, NUS What's happening for the Chek Jawa guidebook launch? Guidebooks will be on sale at 20% discount or $15nett (retail price $18.72nett in bookstores). For each copy sold during the launch, $11.25 was contributed to the National Parks Board (NParks) Garden City Fund to support conservation at Chek Jawa. The Fund will be used to train more guides and help NParks in organising more conservation and nature awareness activities in Chek Jawa. This is a joint effort among Horizon Books Pte Ltd (the distributor), Simply Green (the publisher), and the project editors of the guidebook. A $5,000 donation to the Fund has already been made by the publisher and editors as an advance on book sales. Bulk sales at the launch (100 copies or more) got an additional 10% discount with delivery to your doorstep, courtesy of Horizon Books Pte Ltd (the distributor) and Simply Green (the publisher) There was also a photo exhibition "Chek Jawa and beyond" featuring the amazing life found on our very own shores. Besides Chek Jawa, you will also get a glimpse of some colourful and incredible life found on Labrador, Lazarus Island, Beting Bronok, Changi and more. The Guest of Honour Dr Vivian Balakrishnan (Minister of State for National Development) launched the Biodiveristy symposium and the guidebook at 9am 11 July (Fri). The theme "Biodiversity in Singapore-What's Up?" will feature the work of major groups and individuals. The symposium will provide an opportunity for all to interact.
